Why Mining Operations Should Matter To You
Mining operations create the basis for all the United States’ infrastructure. Most Americans do not necessarily realize how important the natural materials extracted by mining operations are to our modern society. All we see are the end products that we use every day. I am certainly not thinking too much about the engineering and materials that went into making the Dell keyboard on which I am typing right now. Nor do I regularly contemplate where the most basic components of Vanguard Modular’s steel portable office building frames come from; so in this short post we will take a couple moments to do just that.
Did you know production of steel requires the mining of iron ore AND metallurgical coal? You read that correctly, coal is required to make steel; a surprising fact for many, because it is almost always referred to as only an energy source. The next time you climb in your Chevrolet, Ford, Hyundai, Toyota, Honda, or brand of your choice, remember that the frame could only have been built with steel if both iron ore and metallurgical coal had been mined. Your safety and the car’s basic structure both rely on steel created from the resources extracted through mining operations. The ‘cherry-on-the-top’ is the fact that steel is 100% recyclable for infinite reuse!
Copper is another product of mining operations that is directly used every day in some form by every American. When you flip on a light switch, electricity flows along copper wiring to turn the lights on. Regardless of whether you are an Apple iPhone fanatic or you love your Samsung Galaxy, the cell phone in your hand requires copper and many other metals to keep you connected. So the next time you post a picture to Instagram, an update to Facebook, or a video to YouTube; just remember that mining operations helped make that possible. Without the ongoing development of the mining industry, the United States economy would come to a grinding halt.
While technology, engineering, and all sorts of equipment are absolutely critical to mining operations (not to mentioning renting all the site box storage and security to pretect it all from weather/thieves), it is the hardworking mining employees that create the backbone for the mining industry’s ongoing success. We at Vanguard Modular Building Systems proudly support the individual and operational needs of mining workers by providing comfortable modular buildings to mining, metal, and mineral facilities throughout the East Coast and Gulf Coast of the United States. Workers operate the mines that extract many of the materials used in our portable modular office buildings. We then have the pleasure of providing them with a comfortable working environment from which they manage mining operations.
Your life is busy, but don’t forget to pause and take the time to understand and appreciate how the things others do affect your life, and it will drastically increase your appreciation for them and their efforts. Building cohesive unity is all about stepping back to gain perspective on how all the individual and unique contributing pieces fit to form an advancing society.
