The car buying experience requires a certain level of both positivity and persuasion through open spaces and a significant amount of natural light. For only being 2,880 square feet, this 36′ x 80′ used car dealership sales center was custom designed with both light and space in mind. Large storefront windows, 9′ ceilings, and double glass doors create a high energy environment for both the sales staff and buyers. The floor of this high traffic sales center was finished with durable and attractive vinyl plank flooring, and the walls feature a textured paint finish. To efficiently maintain a comfortable environment and for appearance purposes, a split system HVAC was installed with air handlers inside the building. Outside, the Trex composite deck is protected by a custom 12′ x 80′ metal canopy with downspouts and scuppers. Every facet of this building was meticulously designed and engineered to ensure customers an excellent experience.
This three piece building’s structural components, finishes, and mechanical systems all come together to create a seamless permanent structure that will function efficiently for a long time. The galvanized bottom board and steel clear-span structure ensure longevity and structural continuity. Furthermore, 2″ x 10″ joists with a double layer of 5/8″ decking create a stiffened floor assembly to significantly reduce overall deflection. The 2″ x 6″ studded exterior walls not only create an extremely solid structure, but also provide for the upgraded insulation package included with this building to bolster energy efficiency. The white EPDM roofing will help reduce air conditioning cooling costs in this southern climate by reflecting the sun’s rays.
Building with the methodology, off-site modular construction created the best solution for this project because the customer was able to keep the dealership generating revenue throughout the entire process. This is a busy auto dealership that could not afford to lose business due to a long and drawn out construction project that would cause lengthy displacement and inconvenience for both employees and customers. The new modular building replaced an old structure that had exceeded its useful life. The modern structure boasts a much better customer experience, and also proved to be extremely cost effective through the speed with which the transition from old to new took place.
