Modular Scale House Project: Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation
In North Carolina, Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation is poised to open its new state-of-the-art permanent two-story modular scale house, located at their Charlotte mill facility. The steel and concrete modular building totals only 1,300 square feet but is crammed-full with hi-tech security and data communication systems to ensure safe and efficient operations. Gerdau decided to replace their existing, deteriorated scale house with a new cutting-edge and high quality modular building that would be durable and meet the demands of its rigorous daily use.
This was a design-building permanent modular construction “PMC” that required project features such as stem wall foundation with crawl space, ejector pump, lightning protection, tempered glass for safety, an observation deck, and a complete hi-rib steel exterior for maximum longevity.
Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation is a large Brazilian owned multi-national business that produces steel products often used in the automotive, construction, and energy markets. They have more than 11,000 employees in North America spread throughout their 140 locations. Gerdau contracted directly with Vanguard Modular Building Systems, LLC to provide the modular building for the project. Vanguard Modular coordinated closely with South East Modular, which constructed the modular building, as well as Upside Innovation which delivered and installed the access systems for a successful completion. Edison Foard, a local but prominent general contractor in the Carolinas, also worked closely with Vanguard Modular during the project and performed all of the general site-work associated with the project and well beyond the footprint of the modular building.
